New Hope Initiative travels to the Oljoro Maasai village in Tanzania to host a medical clinic for more than 320 children and adults.
The global pandemic that we are in has certainly changed the nature of life and ministry for all of us. We are thankful that our supporters have been faithful and generous in allowing us to continue to minister to the marginalized people we serve around the world.
However, we are currently having a serious struggle finding sponsors for our very successful Kibera Penda Project Scholarship Program. Most of our sponsorships are a product of summer trips where our team members are able to meet and develop a heart for these students and commit to sponsoring them. With no trips this year we have not been able to develop new donors and we currently have 50 secondary school freshmen without sponsorships. This represents a serious crisis for us and for these students!
For just $50 per month or $600 per year, you can give the gift of education to one of our students in need. Simply visit our donation link through Kindful and select the amount you would like to give. We will then contact you and assign you a student so you can share in the progress they are making and the hope they are feeling as they move through our Kibera Penda Project program.
Thank you again for all you do for New Hope Initiative.
This global pandemic has had a drastic impact in the lives of the people we work alongside around the world. Like the majority of the world, the country of Kenya has completely shut down and closed all schools.
We know this may seem like the norm these days, but for people living in extreme poverty, the effects of a country-wide shut down are dire. In a community where you “eat as you earn”, not working or attending school means no food. No way to provide meals for your family and no savings or safety net to fall back on. That’s why we are so grateful to our wonderful supporters who have continued to give faithfully, many above and beyond their means, so we can keep feeding the students of New Hope Academy in Kibera.
We’ve been able to provide meals consisting of rice, beans, corn, and oil so that these families can continue to eat during these uncertain times. Thank you to everyone who has continued to give and make moments like these possible! We would like to continue feeding our families through the remainder of this shutdown, but seeing as we do not know the end date, it is hard to prepare or budget for this special project.
If you would like to donate to help provide meals for families in Kibera, please use the button below and select “COVID 19 Response” from the designation menu. Thank you again!
Our ministry to the world’s most marginalized children is being strongly impacted by this worldwide pandemic of Covid-19.
Our schools in Kenya are closed and the country has been ordered to stay home. This leaves the materially disadvantaged families of Kibera in extreme peril. We will begin a feeding program this week to help those families.
In Tanzania, where cases have been lighter we have begun talks with the government about how our Community Medical Clinic can assist with Covid - 19 issues if the need arises as they believe it will.
Our orphanages in India and Sierra Leone are on lockdown as we restrict access to limit risk to the children. We have sent emergency funds to stockpile necessities so that if the situations worsen we will have food for the children.
During this time of economic upheaval, NHI and the children we serve need you more than ever. Will you consider donating to help us serve those in need around the world?
Thank you for being faithful and generous.
Sandy and Karen Baird
Our life-changing work in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya is facing a serious crisis. The Kenyan government has mandated upgrades to schools nationwide to include facility improvements and the addition of libraries, teacher conference rooms, and technology labs. These changes are not optional but must be immediately pursued in order for an institution to stay open. We applaud this initiative by the government to improve schools however it represents a crisis for us as an organization because all these changes are far outside our 2020 budget.
WITH CRISIS COMES OPPORTUNITY
This challenge has been met with much prayer and discussion. Already our Acacia Tree Lodge, as part of its giving-back mission, has paid for the most pressing repairs that had to be completed before school opened earlier this month. Incredibly we have also been approached by local property owners, for the first time in years, about acquiring adjacent property so the library and tech labs can be built. What an answer to prayer! Also, we have applied for a grant to help with the library construction costs. God is at work! However, we need our friends and supporters to step up with a great move of generosity so that $75,000 can be raised and our school saved. We need these funds in the next 60 days so time is critical. We have never asked for help in a crisis like this before but today we desperately need our supporters to step up and meet this need.
